Argentina’s most popular club Boca Juniors defeated Ecuadorian team Barcelona Sporting Club in the Copa Libertadores 2-1. The game was a group 1 game, and it was played in Ecuador.
ESPN Deportes reported that all the goals were scored in the second half of the game. The first two goals were made by the visitors, Boca, and the third, by Barcelona, was made in stoppage time by penalty.
The goals by Boca Juniors were made by forward Juan Manuel Martinez in the 58th minute and by defender Claudio Perez in the 62nd minute.
The first goal came from a corner kick and the ball started scrambling in the penalty box, but it was immediately picked up Martinez left foot.
The second came from a free kick that curled into the box as Perez put a nice header past the Barcelona goalkeeper.
The goal came by penalty made by forward Michael Antonio Arroyo Mina in stoppage time. Arroyo had a goal annulled in the 37th minute.
Apparently, Arroyo used his hand to get around Boca’s goalkeeper on a volley. The player kicked the ball into the net, but the linesman had his flag up ready to call the foul.
This was Boca’s first victory in the Copa Libertadores in group 1. The first game they lost to Mexican team Toluca in Argentina, which was considered to be a huge upset.
