Former “Boardwalk Empire” villain Bobby Cannavale has signed on to star alongside Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne, Cameron Diaz, and Quvenzhane Wallis for the upcoming remake of “Annie,” according to an Aug. 19 report from TheWrap.com.
Cannavale will play Guy, who is described as a “bulldog political consultant to Foxx’s character [Benjamin Stacks] as he runs for mayor of New York.” Diaz will play Miss Hannigan, Byrne will play Grace, and Wallis will play Annie in the upcoming film, which is scheduled for a Christmas 2014 release.
The 43-year-old actor played the New York City Sicilian Gyp Rosetti in the third season of HBO’s Prohibition-era drama. Cannavale has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy this year for his performance, and he has also been nominated for his work on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie” as Dr. Mike Cruz.
He has been in several films recently, including Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” and the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Lovelace.” Cannavale will soon be seen alongside Al Pacino in Dan Fogelman’s directorial debut, “Imagine,” and in Jon Favreau’s latest, “Chef.”
