Bobby Butler selected to represent Albany in AHL all-star game

Albany Devils forward Bobby Butler was selected Thursday to play for the Eastern Conference team at the AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 27-28 in Providence, Rhode Island. Butler will be the only representative from Albany at the game.

Butler has led Albany this season putting up 15 goals and eight assists in 32 games and is currently participating in training camp for the New Jersey Devils. Butler is expected to make the team and it is unknown if another player will be selected.

The 2013 squads feature 33 first-time AHL All-Stars, 12 rookies and 12 former first- and second-round draft choices. Each team comprises of 24 players, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders. Rosters were determined by committees of AHL coaches, and all 30 AHL teams are represented by at least one All-Star.

Butler signed a one-year two-way deal with New Jersey over the summer after his contract was bought out by the Ottawa Senators. Butler's deal is for an estimated $525,000.

Beginning Friday and until Jan. 24, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the starting lineups for the 2013 AHL All-Star Game by visiting the AHL Facebook page and completing the official CCM AHL All-Star Fan Ballot.
