Troubled singer and former reality TV personality Bobby Brown was sentenced in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday for his third DUI arrest.
The singer received 55 days in jail stemming from his most recent drunken driving arrest, which occurred in October 2012. In this particular case, the late Whitney Houston's former husband pleaded no contest to the DUI charges, receiving jail time, probation and an order to attend alcohol rehabilitation. Brown must surrender to jail on March 20.
Bobby Brown Sentenced to Jail, Probation, 18 Month in Alcohol Treatment
Houston, who shares a daughter Brown, died alone in her Beverly Hills hotel room Feb. 11, 2012, just hours before the Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, stunning the music community and devastating her family. Bobbi Kristina, 19, has sparked concerns over her rumored wild behavior and even a pregnancy scare since her mother's death, and fans of the late singer (and reportedly, those close to the young girl) worry that Bobbi may be going down a similarly-unstable path.
Despite being a repeat drunk driving offender, Bobby Brown was sentenced to just two months in an L.A. county jail (though we will see how much time he actually serves; celebrities in Los Angeles are well-known for serving incredibly short stints). He was also given four years probation, which sounds like a somewhat hefty sentence in its own right. However, even that may not mean much to Brown, considering he was already on probation for a previous DUI arrest when he was popped back in October.
With the untimely, sudden death of Whitney Houston still such a fresh wound for Bobby Brown and Bobbi Kristina, it isn't surprising to see evidence of acting out and struggling to cope. It may well be that the death of Whitney Houston has helped inspire both her surviving daughter and ex-husband to make incredibly bad decisions in their grief; let's hope it will instead inspire them to get healthy, before it's too late.
