Bobby Brown on the Today show: "I loved that woman deeply" (Video)

R&B singer Bobby Brown sat down with Matt Lauer on the Today show to discuss - and dispel - many of the rumors circulating since the beginning of his relationship with music icon Whitney Houston, who died in February after being found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel suite.

In Part I of the interview, Brown flatly denied one of the more inflammatory rumors dogging him for the 14 years he and Houston were together: that he turned her on to drugs and that her life went downhill the moment she met him. Of the introduction to drugs, Brown told Lauer, "not true," and when asked how it felt to know much of the public blamed him for Whitney's downward spiral, Brown said he "felt terrible" that people thought he could be responsible for another person's death.

Other highlights from Brown's interview:

  • He loved (and still loves) Whitney deeply
  • He first heard about her passing from New Edition bandmate Ralph Tresvant, who had just received a text and pulled Brown aside to give him the news
  • His first call after hearing the news was to daughter Bobbi Kristina to confirm what the media had been reporting; someone else who answered her phone actually confirmed Whitney's passing
  • He felt Whitney had a "glow" when he last saw her and thought to himself she must be doing "really well"

Part II airs Thursday, May 3, on NBC, where Matt will also talk with Brown's fiancée, Alicia Etheridge, and grown children from previous relationships.
