Bob’s Quality Meats is a family-owned full service butcher shop located in historic Columbia City on Rainier Avenue South in Seattle. Bob’s offers everything you want from a neighborhood butcher, from organic grass-fed and free-range meat, to dry-aged roasts and steaks cut in whatever thickness you prefer, oxtails, ground in-house-daily ground beef; pork chops, ribs, butt, and brisket; their own fresh sausages (beef, pork, and chicken in more than a dozen varieties) and smoked bacon (rated by customers as some of the best in Seattle); their own corned beef for St. Patty’s Day; not to mention chicken (whole and parts), duck, holiday turkeys and hams, whole lamb and pig; as well as elk, buffalo rabbit, and goat (check the freezer case). All of this good meat is weighed and wrapped while you enjoy lively conversation, usually centering on stories about great meals and great recipes.
The current owner James Ackely, son of the original “Bob” is usually flanked by family members to serve customers in the often bustling shop. Jim loves meat and will be glad to help you with cooking instructions. Whether you want something special or a good deal, James and his staff will serve you well. The store offers a variety of meat bundles and seasonal specials. In recent years, the store has expanded their offerings to include sauces, rubs, and other fixings, butter, eggs, and other items, making it a mini-grocery store.
When you visit Bob’s Quality Meats, be sure to include a side trip to the nearby Columbia City Bakery a couple doors away. Also, if you go on Wednesday afternoon from late April to October, the nearby Columbia City farmers market is in full swing from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. where you can buy fresh seasonal vegetables and everything else Seattle farmers markets have to offer.
