Bob Newhart returns to TV with guest spot on hit show 'The Big Bang Theory' (Video)

Bob Newhart is guesting on hit show “The Big Bang Theory”, that according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, March 21. Marking his first half-hour sitcom appearance in nearly a decade, comedy legend Bob Newhart is set to appear on “The Big Bang Theory” this May. Newhart is best known for his multi-Emmy-nominated performances in his 70s sitcom “The Bob Newhart Show”, as well as the 80s “Newhart”. Nominated six times, the comic “genius” has never won the coveted award.

Newhart’s turn on the ratings-leading sitcom has him portraying Professor Proton, the former host of Jim Parson’s character Sheldon's favorite science show. The professor’s character apparently played a big part in both Sheldon and roommate Leonard’s childhood.

Celebritycafe.com reports that Bob Newhart’s guest-role episode is scheduled to air on Thursday, May 2. The next first-run airing of the CBS comedy will be on April 4th.
