Bob Marley Birthday Parties going down all over town + more Previews!

The Lawrence music scene is paying tribute to the legendary Lion of Zion, Bob Marley, with reggae shows all over town. Wednesday night, the Bottleneck had the Meditations playing a tribute show in celebration of Bob Marley's birthday this Sunday.

Tonight James Dean Rose Jr. will play a tribute show with Tyler Gregory, Cowgirls Trian Set and other groups. Rose is a jack of many instruments, playing guitar, banjo, mandolin and more. This show will take the reggae brilliance of Marley and transform it into Americana, folk music, offering up a fresh new style to Marley classics. Price is a mystery on Lawrence.com but we do know that the show starts at 10 p.m. Tyler Gregory always puts on an impressive set, with his sonorous voice and expert guitar-picking, so don't miss out!

Friday night there's plenty of choices for music lovers looking for a good time:

James Dean Rose Jr. will be moving down the street to The Replay Lounge to play along with Dumptruck Butterlips, this bluegrass party should start at 10 p.m. The Replay is known for cheap drinks and plenty of space to smoke at the outdoor bar when you're not checking out the music in the cozy indoor section.

At the same time the Cosmopolitics will be rockin the Jazzhaus with fusion progressive rock and jazz.

If you're stuck in Kansas City Friday night, don't distress: Mountain Sprout will be playing with The Grisly Hand. Mountain Sprout is always a hoot and a holler, so is you can make it, check out this great bluegrass act for a wild party.

Most exciting of all this Friday night is the 2011 Waka Winter Classic being held at the Bottleneck. Local bands will be battling to see who earns a place in the Wakarusa lineup this Summer.
