Unity considers children to be one of life’s most significant blessings and constantly seeks to support parents in their efforts to nurture their children. Join Bob Lancer at Atlanta Unity Church when he presents proven, stress-free strategies for preventing and solving emerging problem behaviors in ways that honor and preserve the child’s self-esteem.
A particularly difficult aspect of parenting is providing appropriate discipline when behavioral problems occur. Traditionally, parents try to control a child’s behavior through intensity of correction by becoming louder and more insistent which actually promotes defensiveness rather than cooperation from the child. Lancer contends that the key to success in “controlling” a child’s behavior lies in the existence of a deep, loving connection between the parent and the child in which the child feels understood and accepted as he/she is. Three of Lancer’s strategies for success include: (1) the parent first being in charge of self before trying to provide leadership for the child; (2) the parent responding to the child in line with the desired results which automatically raises the level of the child’s behavioral responses; and, (3) the parent making changes in the child’s behavior by small degrees so the child is not overwhelmed. A video of Lancer presenting some of these ideas accompanies this article.
Participants, upon completion of this workshop, will be able to: (1) understand the stages of child development and how to nurture a child in developing cooperative behaviors; (2) understand how to implement techniques focusing on increasing desired behaviors and resolving problem behaviors rather than inadvertently increasing undesirable behaviors; (3) understand three child discipline options and how to choose the one that will work best with a specific child; and (4) learn more effective self-control strategies which will lead to positive experiences with discipline and decreased personal stress.
The seminar will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Atlanta Unity Church in Fellowship Hall. The fee is $20.00 per person to be paid at the event (by cash, Visa/Mastercard, or check made out to Bob Lancer). Required registration can be completed by leaving your name, phone number, and the number of people attending with you at (404) 297-4043 or by e-mail. Questions concerning the event may also be addressed through these same contact methods.
