Bob Grabowski shares Honeywell's marketing technology (Photos)

Honeywell, a leading and innovated technology corporation located in Morristown, New Jersey, noted for their bar code and retail marketing solutions. I had the privileged to ask some questions answered by their Vertical Marketing manager, Mr. Bob Grabowski. A native New Yorker who has a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from State University of New York and MBA from Long Island University, Bob's commitment with retail technology solutions from Honeywell has spread throughout business partners in all aspect of marketing fields and has made business-strong relationships. Mr. Grabowski was kind enough to answers questions regarding today’s technology with bar code and imaging technology, retail services, smart-phones and loss prevention.

Brian: How has Honeywell been doing well in the field of retail business in the world.

B. Grabowski: Honeywell has enabled retailers to expand the size of their loyalty programs, and market to these repeat customers via a new mobile phone medium. Enrolling customers into loyalty programs at the POS (Point of Sales) by scanning both driver’s licenses and promotional bar codes rendered on mobile phone screens. Our technology has led the migration from laser scanners to imaging (POS) scanner, thus becoming a global market leader. Our new Captuvo line of enterprise sleds for Apple devices extends that capability to mobile (POS) platforms, so retail marketers do not have to “split the baby in half” when rolling out customer engagement solutions.

Brian: Being bar coding and computers has been the stand of Honeywell’s retail services, Will that ever change? What sort of new technology is on the horizon?

B. Grabowski: Through sister Strategic Business Units, Honeywell delivers management of loss prevention and facilities solutions for retailers and process control solutions for consumer manufacturers. Honeywell Scanning and Mobility(HSM) looks for broader offerings over the next several years. HSM is bringing to market a hybrid mobility solutions, at customer request, in the form of Captuvo enterprise sled that make i OS device like the Dolphin Black rugged-smart phone. Given the multi-platform realities of today’s mobility market and growing demand for cloud based solutions, expect enabling software and alternative pricing models from Honeywell.

Brian: What sort of new and innovative technologies Honeywell will create and distribute for retailers to improve their sales and efficiency, making it more streamlined. Are the future in retail marketing is in mobile devices.

B. Grabowski: Traditionally, “ Auto-ID” solution have focused on improving productivity, inventory, accuracy and tightening up supply chain. With our imaging technology, and non-traditional mobility platforms, we have applied to increasing to line revenue, directly helping our customers grow their businesses. Honeywell 2-D bar code readers and decode software have empowered retail marketers to open up consumer smart phones as a new and effective marketing medium. Honeywell scanners has powered mobile marketers like Target and Starbucks to scan promotional bar codes sources from text messages and identify repeat customers at the point of sales with a retailer hosted smart phone app. Also, Apple has enabled rapid expansion of mobile marketing via their Passbook platform while companies such as Toshiba Global Commerce has embedded Honeywell's decode software into their consumer Smart phone personal shopper solution. Honeywell Captuvo enterprise sleds for i OS devices are enabling retail store associates to directly engage shoppers, helping select merchandise and create endless sales regardless of store inventory on hand.

Brian: What sort of new mobile platforms Honeywell will announce coming this January? What other independent companies, banks or institutions are collaborating on this venture? Will the wallet and/or purse be obsolete?

B. Grabowski: Honeywell announced the expansion of our Captuvo enterprise sled for Apple's i Os current devices and announced a new class of devices, the Dolphin Black hybrid smart phone and rugged mobile computer. Collaborating with payment gateway it's processors to deliver secure “Point to Point Encryption” to enhance mobile (POS) solutions and reduces PCI (Payment Card Industry) scope while securing cardholder data, even if the retailer firewall is breached. JDA Software featured their new I Pad based Customer Engagement solution using “Shift4 P2PE” services and Honeywell’s upcoming “SL82” sled for Apple i Pad. The new Dolphin Black is NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled and will keep pace with development in (NFC) based digital wallet applications.

Brian: Will the average retail store registers slowly becoming obsolete? Will all retail shopping purchases be more of a point and click sort of experience?

B. Grabowski: Predictions regarding the future of technology is precarious. A considerable portion of the US population is “unbanked”, so cash will be around for quite some time. Some retailers have announced plans to replace all fixed lanes with mobile devices. But as retail workstations has well serviced our lives, many retailers loathe to replace them prematurely. I do expect many retailers to remove “overflow” laws as they roll out mobile (POS) devices, recapture floor space for product displays and has already started at the SMB level like Revel Systems.

Brian: With new platform being offered by Honeywell, will it gather consumer shopping habits, IE. Items brought, spending, demographics. How will this information help retail owners?

B. Grabowski: Yes. Honeywell’s Captuvo mobility platform targets “customer engagement” will capture both detailed customer preference information during the sales engagement process and provide retail associates with previous customer sales information. Information will then be captured by retailer’s CRM(Customer Relationship Software) and potentially be used by retailer for merchandise planning and promotional opportunities. Think of Captuvo as the eyes and ears of customer's engagement and (CRM) software.
