Kris Kristofferson's "Closer To The Bone" (New West)
Bob Dylan is not an unaccredited backing vocalist on the new Kris Kristofferson album, Closer To The Bone.
Allmusic wrote a review of the album, and claimed that Dylan was singing backing vocals on the title track. The article has since been corrected (see September 29). New West Records has posted an article stating that Stephen Bruton, not Dylan, sang backing vocals. Bruton - a guitarist andsongwriting partner, as well as a friend for almost 40 years, died in May.
Dylan and Kristofferson, however, go back a long way. Kristofferson was a janitor in a Nashville studio when Dylan was recording Blonde on Blonde in 1966. They both appeared in the 1973 film “Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid”. They have recorded and performed each others’ material. Dylan covered Kristofferson’s “They Killed Him” on his album, “Knocked Out Loaded”
