With little fanfare, a previously unreleased Bob Dylan-Joan Baez duet was released earlier this month.
In 1976, Bob Dylan had a one-hour, prime time network special. “Hard Rain” was a Rolling Thunder Revue concert recorded at Hughes Stadium, at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado. The outdoor, rain-drenched show was recorded on May 23, one day before Dylan’s 35th birthday. A companion album, “Hard Rain”, was released in conjunction with the TV special, but all duets with Baez were allegedly excluded due to licensing issues. Dylan had recorded an earlier version of the special in Florida for “The Midnight Special”, but was unhappy with the results. The Fort Collins show was the next-to-last Rolling Thunder Revue concert.
One of the Dylan-Baez duets from “Hard Rain” has now been released on the soundtrack of “How Sweet The Sound”, the Joan Baez documentary you can watch here. The song , “I Pity The Poor Immigrant”, featured in the program, can be seen in it's entirety above.
