The "Official Bob Dylan Twitter Page," @BobDylan, is now following the tweets of @MileyCyrus, Ellen DeGeneres (@The EllenShow), @SpotifyUSA, and @thebeatles These are the first additions to the list in quite some time, bringing the grand total of accounts followed to fourteen.
Earlier this afternoon, Bruce Springsteen's official Twitter account, @springsteen, started following DeGeneres, and @BobDylan joined in about an hour later. DeGeneres has been in the news lately because the American Family Association's "One Million Moms" group started a campaign against the comedian and talk show host . The group, whose numbers are probably nowhere near one million, felt DeGeneres should not work as a spokeswoman for the J.C. Penny retail chain because she is a lesbian. A press spokeswoman for J.C. Penny stated the company intends to "stand behind its partnership with Ellen DeGeneres." At the time of this post, there was no statement or announcement from either Dylan or Springsteen, but it might be interpreted that the act of following DeGeneres' account could be seen as a show of solidarity.
Why would the people responsible for Dylan's Twitter account follow the former Hannah Montana on the online social networking service?
On Monday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, Miley Cyrus appeared and performed her breathy cover of Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go," which was included in the 4 CD and downloadable versions of Chimes Of Freedom - The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. Another reason could be that then you click on @MileyCyrus from Dylan's page, there's a link to Cyrus' official website. Once there, if you scroll down, you'll see a post on Cyrus' "MI (sic) BLOG":
