Morrison was a big fan of The Band. After recording his landmark album Astral Weeks, Morrison and his wife Janet Planet moved to Woodstock in February, 1969, partially because The Band created Music From Big Pink there. Morrison started hanging out with the Band , although he didn't get to know Dylan during this period.
The Band's influence in all over Morrison's hit album Moondance."Brand New Day" f was Morrison's response to his first hearing of The Band's version of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". Appropriately enough, Van first shared the stage with Dylan at The Band's Last Waltz in 1976, singing back-up on that song.
Dylan toured with Morrison numerous times in the 1980s and 1990s. Morrison sang "Baby Blue" three times with Dylan on the 1984 European Tour (and "Tupelo Honey" once).
In 1989, Dylan spent some time with Morrison in Athens, Greece. The two songwriters were filmed at Philopappos (The Hill Of The Muses) on June 27, performing "Crazy Love", "And It Stoned Me", "Foreign Window", and "One Irish Rover". Some of the footage was used for the 1991 BBC documentary, Arena: One Irish Rover – Van Morrison in Performance. The next evening, Morrison joined Dylan on stage in Athens, singing "Crazy Love" and "Stoned Me".
