The 2014 Vic Lombardi Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting the Salvation Army Denver ARC (Adult Rehabilitation Center), is held Monday, July 14th with a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the luxurious Fossil Trace Golf Club, 3050 Illinois St. in Golden, Colorado.

18 holes of golf (with cart), a delicious lunch and a special silent auction highlight this event.

Fast approaching is the ‘early bird’ registration deadline of May 31st with registering after the 31st costing another $50 allowing just a few days left to save a few bucks by calling Captain Ron McKinney at 303-956-7385.

Platinum sponsorship ($2K), Gold sponsorship ($1,500), Silver sponsorship ($1K) and Hole sponsorships of $100 (one hole) remain available.

Saturday June 14th makes a great Fathers’ Day (June 15th) gift when entering the Colorado Golden Gloves Fundraiser Golf Tournament (4-man scramble) held at Willis Case Golf Course, I-70 & Sheridan, beginning at 8 a.m. Register by phone: 303-594-0123.

Great homemade breakfast burritos, door prizes, cool refreshing beverages, a delicious lunch and mingling with legendary Golden Glovers all part of the fun.

Briefly venturing from boxing, we all have ‘Moms’ who were a close second to the original and in this case ‘Mother Mary Burrell’ asked (demanded) her and husband Mike Burrell’s group, ‘Iowa Colorado Club’ and their ‘Iowa Days’ get a plug.

Running Thursday, July 31st thru Saturday, August 3rd, the event is headquartered at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 3203 N. Quebec St., 303-321-3333, in Northeast Denver and is not exclusive to Iowa natives.

A casino trip to Central City, shopping in the Northfield shopping center, a picnic and a special night of talent that always provides something interesting, all part of the festivities.

For more information contact Event Coordinator Mike Burrell by phone at 303-589-8784 or e-mail:

They have a Facebook page, Iowa Colorado Club, with updated information.

You all have no idea how this mention hopefully saves me from that ‘old school’ whooping, ‘Mother Burrell’ still able to ‘put it down’ when she feels it necessary.
