Bob Cox memorial; 2014 National GG; local amateur shows

The memorial service for Bob Cox (Cox-Lyle Boxing) is this Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Salvation Army/Red Shield gym, 2915 High St., beginning at 10AM.

Salvation Army Captain Ron McKinney and wife Captain Roberta McKinney, longtime friends of Bob Cox and his family, will conduct the service with the family requesting in lieu of flowers any donations be sent to: Salvation Army/Red Shield/Cox-Lyle Boxing, 2915 High St., Denver, CO, 80205.

The support Mr. Cox had given not only Cox-Lyle Boxing but Denver amateur boxing as a whole will be missed, with condolences sent to his many friends and family.

May 9th-10th, Regional Junior Olympics Tournament competition is held in Los Lunas, New Mexico with our Colorado State JO Tournament winners (ages 13-16) participating.

Thornton Boxing Club (Lou Silva) and the Denver Rocks are having an amateur boxing show (all boxers welcome) Saturday, May 10th at (the old Mapleton High School) 601 E. 64th Ave., Denver 80229, with weigh-ins from 7-9 a.m., the show beginning at 2 p.m.

The Rodarte Boxing show is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th at the Rodarte Boxing Center, 920 A St. in Greeley, CO, with Coach Pancho (505-901-1129) or Dominique Padilla (970-350-9431) looking to prematch (all boxers welcome) as many bouts as possible.

May 11-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 2014 National Golden Gloves Tournament gets under way with Coaches Charles Leverette and Joe Guzman leading the CO/New Mexico Regional champions.

The amateur boxing scene in Colorado picks up momentum now thru the end of the year, so get out and support these kids who are pursuing their dreams of one day becoming a World Boxing Champion.
