Bob Bezek wins the overall at the Kansas Series in Olathe, Kansas

The Kansas Golf Association Senior Series teed it off at the Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, Kan. on Tuesday July 29. Prairie Highlands is an 18-hole par 72 course that measures from 5,122 yards on the forward tees to 7,066 yards at the back tees.

In the Overall bracket gross scoring Bob Bezek of Ottawa, Kan. shot a one under par 71 to finish in first place. Andy Smith of Kansas City, Mo. and Michael Carey of Shawnee Mission, Kan. posted even par rounds to end in a tie for second. In net scoring Jim Copp, Fran Ferns, Matt Rose, and Larry Nelson had adjusted scores of six under par to finish in a four-way tie for first place.

Matt Rose of Shawnee, Kan. shot a one over par 73 to take first in the 50 to 54 age bracket gross scoring. Leawood, Kan. resident Jeff Holmes finished in second at eight over par and Calvin Clough of Wichita, Kan. shot 11 over par 83 for third. Rose held on to first place in net scoring with an adjusted round of six under par. Clough moved up to second place and Holmes finished in third.

The only under par score at one under shot by Bezek placed him in first place in the 55 to 59 age bracket gross scoring. An even par round of 72 led to Andy Smith of Kansas City, Mo. finishing in second place. Bob Hartmann of Shawnee, Kan. finished in third at one over par. Larry Nelson of Salina, Kan. finished in first place in net scoring with an adjusted score of six under par. Smith remained in second place and Bezek dropped to third with Bruce Meyer of Wichita, Kan.

The 60 to 64 age bracket gross scoring resulted in a first place tie between Gary Richter of Overland Park, Kan. and Bob McKinney of Olathe, Kan. with seven over par rounds of 79. Duane Creekmore from Wichita, Kan. finished in third at eight over par. Bob Hunter of Lee’s Summit, Mo. received an adjusted score of one under par in net scoring to secure first place. Pat Goeke of Paola, Kan. finished in second at even par and Richter dropped to third.

Michael Carey’s even par round of 72 was enough for him to finish in first place in the 65 to 69 age bracket gross scoring. Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kan. and Fran Ferns from Leawood finished one shot back of Carey to tie for second place. In net scoring Ferns moved to first place with an adjusted score of six under par. One shot back was Don Branson of Prairie Village, Kan. and Brewer and Kenneth Hackler of Topeka, Kan. finished in third at four under par.

The 70 and over age bracket gross scoring resulted in Jim Copp of Beloit, Kan. shooting four over par 76 for first place. Donald Bynum of Hutchinson, Kan. shot eight over par 80 for second place, and third place went to Roger Mahnke of Lenexa, Kan. at 12 over par. Copp held on to first place in net scoring with an adjusted score of six under par. Bynum held on to second at five under par and Skip Rein of Leawood, Kan. finished at four under par for third.

The Senior Series next tees it up at the Dodge City Country Club on August 20.
