On Thursday, December 12, The Price Is Right audience was treated by the special appearance of Bob Barker in honor of his 90th birthday. Barker originally hosted the Price Is Right for 35 years from 1972 to 2007.
Displaying the wit and good humor he is known for, Baker told the audience “You folks appreciate the fact that it has taken me a long time to become 90.”
Barker has delighted his fans for years as host of the Price is Right, but these days his role as animal advocate is having incredible impact. The animal advocate in him appeared when he reminded the Price Is Right television audience as he had each time he had signed off the the show to to spay and neuter their pets.
However, Barker does far more than just tell people what to do to help animals or loan his celebrity name to animal advocacy causes. He spends time and money helping organizations such Animal Defenders International (ADI) and similar organizations that are doing incredible work to help a myriad of animal causes.
It is because of Barker’s extraordinary efforts Jan Creamer, President and founder of ADI says, “On behalf of all the animals of the world, huge Happy 90th Birthday wishes to the legendary Bob Barker, a true pioneer of animal rights.”
Examiner readers may recall the July 2, 2013 Chicago Animal Advocacy Article Titled “Lion Ark roars,” which reviewed the film of ADI’s rescue of 25 lions from Bolivia. That fantastic rescue that Lion Ark documents may never have happened if it wasn’t for the generosity of Bob Barker.
According to Creamer, “Mr. Barker’s support allowed ADI to clear a whole country, Bolivia, of its suffering circus animals and take them to safety – the first operation of its kind in the world. He has also helped ADI to save animals across the globe, providing the support for undercover investigations and exposure of animal abuse and helping to win legislation to protect animals.”
After a successful 35 year long run on one of Televisions most popular shows, most entertainers would have been satisfied to retire and rest. However, the energetic and philanthropic Bob Barker found a new full time job in advocating for and helping organizations such as ADI.
In summation of ADI’s recognition of the work Bob Barker has done and is doing Creamer said, “From calling for pets to be neutered every day he hosted The Price is Right, to backing measures to protect them, animals could not have a finer voice. Happy Birthday and on behalf of the animals of the world thank you, Bob Barker.”
