HBO's drama "Boardwalk Empire" won five Emmy Awards at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sun., Sept. 22, 2013. The top Emmy for the show was for Bobby Cannavale for his portrayal of maniac gangster Gyp Rosetti.

"Boardwalk Empire," a series about crooked politicians and gangsters set during the Prohibition Era of the 1920s, is currently is its fourth season on HBO. The drama stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, the boss of Atlantic City.
Gyp Rosetti (Cannavale) and Nucky Thompson (Buscemi) were at odds, to say the very least, during the entire third season. The character Rosetti could go from likable and endearing to a menacing maniac at the slightest provocation.
Cannavale was nominated for two awards this year. He was also nominated for his Guest Actor role in the Showtime comedy "Nurse Jackie." As Dr. Mike Cruz (Cannavale) had a complicated relationship with Jackie (Edie Falco). Edie Falco pays touching tribute to The Sopranos star James Gandolfini
The actor accepted his statue and expressed his appreciation for being nominated in the company of such fine fine actors. Nominees included: Mandy Patinkin ("Homeland" on Showtime); Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones" on HBO); Jim Carter ("Downton Abbey"on PBS); Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad") and Jonathan Banks ("Breaking Bad").
Elaborating, Cannavale said, "Mandy Patinkin is the first person I ever saw on stage, and he's, like, my favorite person."
Cannavale thanked his family and his son Jake, from his marriage to Jenny Lumet.
The actor surprised the audience by proclaiming that actress Rose Byrne ("Bridesmaids," "Damages") is the love of his life, saying, “And I want to thank the love of my life, Rose. The couple attended the Emmy Awards together and were photographed on the red carpet.
“Boardwalk Empire” won five Emmys out of 10 nominations. Additional wins include Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series; Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour); and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.
