Boardwalk Empire won has received well deserved SAG Awards and Golden Globe Awards for its freshman season on HBO. The Prohibition era series stars Steve Buscemi as flamboyant crooked politician Nucky Thompson, based on the historic Atlantic City treasurer Enoch 'Nucky' Johnson.
Boardwalk Empire won two SAG Awards at the Screen Actors Guild Awards presentation on January 30, 2011. Boardwalk Empire won the award for Best Ensemble Cast and lead actor Steve Buscemi won for Best Actor in a TV drama.

The Prohibition was an era when the sale of alcohol was banned, inadvertently causing a boom industry for illegal sales of alcohol and giving a boost the the gangster era, when criminals such as Al Capone made a fortune in illegal activities.
