‘Boardwalk Empire’ fans petition to get HBO to help with Sandy relief efforts

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast, Philadelphia resident Hannah Sassaman has launched a petition on Change.org to get HBO and the producers, cast, and crew of “Boardwalk Empire” to help with relief efforts.

According to an Oct. 30 report from AllYourTV.com, the amount of damage done by Hurricane Sandy is unclear at the moment. However, a reported 2,000 feet of the “uptown” boardwalk has been destroyed, along with other storefronts and landmarks.

“I love ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ and was watching it last night as the storm howled past our window,” Sassaman posted on the petition’s main page. “But thousands of families and workers in Atlantic City have wrecked businesses, closed schools, delayed jobs, and destroyed beaches to look forward to tonight.”

“After 9/11, I remember many television platforms breaking the fourth wall to raise money for or stand with survivors of the attacks,” she continued. “Post Frankenstorm Sandy, HBO should use ‘Boardwalk Empire’ to raise funds directly for Atlantic City.”
