The Illinois Association of Museums (IAM) Board of Directors is seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director of the IAM. “IAM is an independent 501(c) 3 with a member network of diverse Illinois museums of every size, every discipline, and every region of the state. The mission of IAM is to serve as an agent for positive change in the museum community through providing advocacy, promoting best practices, and fostering the exchange of ideas. The successful applicant will build upon IAM’s twenty-year history to lead a capacity building fundraising campaign and ensure the growth and sustainability of IAM’s services of education, advocacy, and leadership development.”
Reporting to the Board of Directors through the IAM President, the Executive Director is responsible for the day to day management of IAM’s operations, as well as working closely with the IAM Board around the implementation of IAM’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The Executive Director will oversee IAM development activities which may include but are not limited to individual, corporate, government and grant solicitations, membership maintenance and growth, annual and planned giving and special events. The successful applicant will broaden IAM’s membership and partnerships, cultivate donors and build a successful marketing and development task force within the Board, and develop the leadership and capacity of the IAM Board to successfully serve the larger museum community, and continue to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
We seek an accomplished leader with a high level of commitment to the museum community, proven fundraising ability, fiscal management skills, and ability to build successful partnerships and inspire others. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated teamwork ability. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required; a graduate degree(s) is preferable.
