5th Annual Diversity & Inclusion Conference event on Saturday, March 1st, 2014.
Sharif, a current board member for the Compton City Council, was in attendance to show her support and admiration for the school district and support.
Otha Thornton, National PTA President, was the key note speaker at event. Thornton is the PTA's first male African-American president and a former lieutenant colonel in the Army. Thornton believes said that discipline and his own struggles as a youth helps him relate to the most at risk children of today.
Amy Heilman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, also spoke at the conference on issues concerning foster care. Sharif was interested in this topic due to the fact that a large amount of children in the district deal with foster care.
People in attendance to this event became aware how to reach out to today’s PTA, while embracing the diverse cultures and all of the association's fundamental principles.
This event was a prime example the good deeds that the Sharif hopes to strive and continue with as a board member of the Compton Unified School District.
