Adding to the never-ending list of shocking celebrity break ups, R&B singer Robin Thicke and wife actress Paula Patton released a statement through reps late yesterday announcing their separation after 9 years of marriage. "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time" they said of their decision. The pair met when they were teenagers and have one son.
Rumors had circulated last year that their marriage was on the rocks but the pair insisted that was false. They have recently been seen together on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards, looking happy, but now it seems that there is trouble in paradise. There were also whispers of infidelity on Thicke's part, who has been seen on more that one occasion getting close to other women. One of those women, Lana Scolaro, claims that the singer in fact cheated on his wife with her at a post-VMA party last year. A photo posted by the fan shows the two posing together and Thicke's hand can be seen on the woman's back side, reflected in a mirror behind them. She also alleges that it was not the first time they met.
This is kind of controversy is certainly not helping Thicke, who raised eyebrows with his scandalous VMA performance with Miley Cyrus (which some called "disrespectful" to Patton) and his racy hit Blurred Lines. He recently came under fire from students at Boston University, who are petitioning to have Thicke's on campus performance banned. They cited his lyrics as "promoting rape of women". Thicke has not responded to that particular organization but said in a previous interview with Daily Mail that it was written about his wife. "She's my good girl. And I know she wants it because we've been together for 20 years". Now it looks like Thicke is living single.
