Bluffton's Black Friday

Every season has its signs of arrival; no matter if you’re talking about the changing seasons of nature, sports, or even politics. Presently, there are a lot of signs popping up lately. The trees and flowers are in bloom; signaling the impending summer season. Election signs are everywhere; ready for this year’s political showdown. Sports are also having their changing of the guard as some finish playoffs, while others gear up to begin.

One season that is starting to come into full swing is probably one that some overlook: garage sale season. To some, this may not seem like a big event, but to bargain hunters, this is their Christmas! In fact, the city of Bluffton is having their annual city-wide garage sale this Saturday, May 1, 2010! Comparable to Black Friday, there are undoubtedly many people who are already formulating their routes as they scan the listed ads on the Bluffton home page (and that is not even counting the many garage sales that are unadvertised).

Whether or not  you are selling or buying, everyone can benefit from this grand event! If you are bold enough to brave a little traffic, you will likely stumble upon some great finds at unbeatable prices! Hopefully, if you’re hosting one, you’ll have the advantage of a break or two so that you can do some browsing yourself! And, considering the crowds, sellers are sure to cash in! Either way, you are sure to profit!

Regardless of whether you’re collecting more stuff or selling it, there are also many more advantages to this event that many may not realize. For example, some may be fundraising or donating their proceeds to charity. In fact, Life Church will be hosting a sale at their location on 428 S. Oak Street, so feel free to stop by and support them!

Speaking of Life Church, you might also want to be aware of the fact that they now have what is called The Reach Room. If you have lots of leftover clothing that doesn’t sell, feel free to donate it at the location mentioned! There is a large bin at the south side of the building where you can drop off your clothing! Every Thursday night, The Reach Room is open to residents of the community who desperately need clothes ($2.00 a bag). Your donations will see to it that the people in our community are provided for; and will be cared for on a heart-to-heart level as they are ministered to by Christ-loving volunteers!

Here’s to hoping that this event will benefit and stimulate the local economy as we support our neighbors and area businesses. May we also minister to others as we exercise courtesy and generosity to our neighbors and area ministries! Be safe as you travel and hopefully, Saturday will be rain and traffic-jam free! May the parking spaces abound; but remember to wear your walking shoes!

For more information: To learn more about donating to The Reach Room (including mattresses, furniture, and other items) or to volunteer, please call 260-824-2252 or e-mail life@missionoflife.com.

I love garage sales, going to them that is, not having them! Wish I lived closer, I would donate to your church program.
