On our recent trip to Weatherford, my girlfriends and I took a side trip to Bluffdale Vineyards. It was a delightful experience and one that I would recommend to anyone visiting the area east and south of Ft. Worth.
David and Theresa Hayes have settled their vineyard in the rocky hills south and east of Granbury. It is tucked away on CR 148, 2.5 miles off of Hwy 377. One of those places that is easy to find if you know where to look. Finding it, though is worth the effort. See the map on their website.
On the third Sunday of every month, Bluffdale hosts a concert. Even though my friends and I visited the winery on the third Sunday of the month, David was gracious enough to do a tasting for us. Normally it is too busy on that day for him to take time to do a tasting. We were grateful.
I was favorably impressed with the selection. I am one of those wine fans who knows little about wine, but I know what I like. During the tasting we sampled six of David's offerings. I brought home the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. I really is good. As usual, at a winery, if you purchase quantity, there is a discount. Together, my friends and I qualified. It was fun making our selections and seeing what everyone liked.
As for the third Sunday events, they happen rain or shine, cold or hot. If it is cool, they turn on the heaters on the porch. If it is cold, they move inside. You can bring food, or buy snacks on site. The establishment does require that you purchase all beverages from them. There is a great veranda from which you can sit at tables and overlook the vineyard while enjoying the music. The music varies from month to month. It is all enjoyable. Gates open at noon and the music is from 1 to 4 o'clock.
Check out the website for all the details of the 3rd Sunday events and anything else you need to know about the vineyard. The vineyard and tasting room are open every day but Tuesdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.www.bluffdalevineyard.com. Also, sign up for their newsletter which tells you about upcoming events. Become a member of their wine society and take advantage of discounts, special offerings and regular shipments of wine of your choice.
As my readers know, I am a big supporter of the Texas wine industry. David and Theresa have established a great vineyard and have created a fun environment to enjoy the experience. I recommend calling ahead for groups for a wine tasting or just pop in if you are in the area. See my article on Texas Wineries
