Friday, January 11 will be a big night for blues at Downtown Des Moines music venue the Gas Lamp (1501 Grand Avenue). Kicking off the weekend, as they do every weekend, will be the Bob Pace Band. Pace, who added Iowa Blues Hall of Famer to his already impressive resume in 2012, will host the Gas Lamp's weekly Work Release Party from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be a $4 cover charge at the door and free food while it lasts.
The late show at the Gas Lamp on January 11 will feature 2012 Blues Music Award winner for "Best New Artist Debut", Samantha Fish. Fish grew up in the Kansas City area and exploded onto the nation's blues radar during the last two years. Not only did Fish release her award-winning solo debut album Runaway, but she also partnered up with fellow female blues artists Cassie Taylor and Dani Wilde for Girls With Guitars in late 2010 and the accompanying year-long "2011 Blues Caravan Tour".
