Bluegrass and gospel music news in the Ozarks region and elsewhere

A regular source of inspiration to me on Ozarks culture and heritage is the StateoftheOzarks.net online magazine edited by and photographs by Joshua Heston. His recent special edition newsletter reminded all of his readers of the many bluegrass and gospel music activities occurring in the Ozarks region over the next month or so. Check this link for more details; I'll mention a few of the items in the rest of this article. While you are over there, be sure to sign up for the weekly email notice, if you have not already.

Marshfield, MO, will host the first annual Blazin' Bluegrass Jamboree from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 23, on the lawn in front of Marshfield Place on South White Oak in Marshfield. It will be a free, fun activity for the whole community. The six-hour event will include six local bands: Flat Creek, Hard Times Bluegrass Band, Sac River Bluegrass, MT Pocketts Bluegrass, High Hopes Bluegrass and Night Hawke Express. Admission is free.

The Nighthawk Express Bluegrass Show featuring The Baker Family, Hard Times Bluegrass and Nighthawk Express will be Saturday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m., at the Firefighter's Local 152, 2350 N. Clifton, Springfield, MO. Admission is free, donations are accepted. All bluegrass musicians are welcome to a bluegrass jam, 5-6:30 p.m. There will be a show the first Saturday of each month. The International Country Gospel Music Association 2010 Convention and Awards Show
will take place in West Plains, MO, at the Civic Center. The event includes artists' showcases, seminars, concerts and an awards show. Bluegrass gospel, southern gospel and country gospel music will abound. Click the linnk or call 417-372-1129 for more information.
