During the March 29-31 weekend of the Sakura-Con in Seattle, one of the most prominent booths of the anime convention's Exhibition Hall came courtesy of Bluefin Distribution and their impressive display of Gundam models and toys that were also available for purchase.
One of the fringe benefits and/or costs of being an anime fan is temptation to collect the ever-increasing amount of anime figures and merchandise of favorite characters. For anime fans who like a more hands on approach with their figures or like the “Gundam” series, gunpla (a Japanese portmanteau of “Gundam” and plastic model”) lets them buy and build plastic model kits based off Gundam models from the series. Gunpla usually involves turning trees of plastic into detailed robot toys with various degrees of articulation inteded for play or posing. Skilled gunpla enthusiasts can customize their Gundam models with battle damage, create detailed dioramas, or kit-bash various Gundam models into their own customized figure.
Bluefin Distribution also got to show off its upcoming line of anime figures and toys to the thousands of attendees at the Washington State Convention Center for Sakura-Con. These anime figures are highly detailed versions of popular anime characters like the cast of “One Piece.” These displayed anime figures would be available to purchase on a later date.
In addition to selling and displaying Gundam models, Sakura-Con and Bluefin Distribution also held a Gundam model contest as a qualifier for the 2013 Gunpla Builders World Cup. Interested gunpla enthusiasts could enter their finished model at the Bluefin Distribution for a chance to win prizes and recognition.
