Blue Star Museums is a joint effort by The National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and participating museums across the country to offer free admission to members of the military including National Guard and Reserve. This is the fifth annual effort by these organizations to give service members and their families the opportunity to enjoy museums and other historical and cultural centers this summer. The announcement was made last Wednesday at the San Antonio Museum of Art which has been a Blue Star Museum since 2011.
More than 2,000 museums nationwide including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are participating in this program. It runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day and is available to any active duty U.S. military which includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps and up to five family members.
