Volusia County will be celebrating the 28th Annual Manatee Festival in Orange City, FL. this weekend. The yearly event is a fundraiser will be held on Jan. 26 and 27, 2013 at Valentine Park on W. French Avenue.
In order to survive, manatees must be in temperatures greater than 68° F. When temperatures drop, they return to Blue Spring State Park where the water temperature is a constant 72° F . At times, the manatees can be found huddle together in numbers upwards of 200. This is an excellent opportunity for homeschool families to learn more about these gentle giants and their environment.
The main attraction is the free buses will be available to shuttle guests to and from their winter home Blue Springs State Park, where the manatees may be viewed in the spring run. Additionally, the festival will showcase activities such as arts and crafts booths, face-painting, dancing and rides. The event benefits the Friends of Blue Spring State Park, scholarships and other Orange City organizations.
