Based on the book written by William Joyce, “The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs,” a new animated film is headed for theaters. Blue Sky offers “Epic,” as they open their doors to enter the world of animated fantasy once again.
Animated films by Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks have been some of the top rated movies in the family film genre. Blue Sky added their creative works through the “Ice Age” movie franchise, “Robots,” “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who,” and “Rio.” The top spots still belong to the Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks studios, regardless of the sizeable paycheck Blue Sky films have brought in.
“Rise of the Guardians” is added to the list of top-notch fantasies by DreamWorks. “Rise of the Guardians” was also an adaptation of a William Joyce novel.
Blue Sky brings “Epic” to the table in May. “Epic” is the tale of a girl, Mary Katherine, who is transported into a place where fantasies include miniature characters. The characters thrive deep in the forest where they ride hummingbirds and live with other whimsical creatures in their world. Like any film with any spunk, there is an evil force that threatens the existence of the fantasy world.
The cast will include Josh Hutcherson from “The Hunger Games” fame, Colin Ferrell of “Total Recall” and Aziz Ansari from “Parks and Recreation.” Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses) and singer/actress Beyonce Knowles will also have roles in the film.
Based on the appearance of the film in the trailer, “Epic” seems to be filled with beautiful animated characters and artwork.
Behind the scenes lies names such as Daniel Shere (George Lucas in Love) and James V. Hart (Hook and Contact). Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember (Failure to Launch, Get Smart) also join in on the fun.
“Epic” will open in theaters around the U.S. on May 17, 2013.
