Blue Rodeo among Governor General's arts awards winners

Blue Rodeo were among the winners of the 2014 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards.

According to a news release posted March 26 at BlueRodeo's official Facebook page, the veteran Canuck roots rockers joined an elite group of Canadian performing artists who received the honour, including Métis actor Tom Jackson, actress Janine Sutto, dancer Anik Bissonnette and choreographer Louise Lecavalier.

Winners were announced March 26 in ceremonies held in Montreal, Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, Calgary, AB and Winnipeg, MB.

Founded in 1992, the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards are given to Canadians whose accomplishments are deemed to have inspired and enriched the country.

Yesterday, Blue Rodeo frontman Jim Cuddy was announced among the final 2014 Juno Awards presenters and will be part of a tribute to 2014 Canadian Music Hall of Fame Inductees Bachman-Turner Overdrive, scheduled to close the Juno ceremonies on March 30 at Winnipeg's MTS Centre

Earlier this month, Blue Rodeo wrapped up the east coast leg of their winter Canadian tour in support of their latest studio album "In Our Nature" in Montreal earlier and were recently named the official ambassadors of Record Store Day 2014 in Canada, set for Sat., April 19.
