Blue Devils lose guard Chelsea Gray for rest of season

Duke Blue Devils head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced from Durham, N.C. on Tuesday that junior point guard Chelsea Gray will miss the rest of the 2012-13 season due to a right knee cap dislocation.

Gray suffered the injury at the 8:01 mark of the first half of the team’s most recent game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Sunday, and will require surgery which was confirmed following an MRI conducted on Monday.

She had started 60 straight games for the Blue Devils, including all 25 contests this season for the currently fifth-ranked Blue Devils.

An All-America selection as a sophomore, Gray was averaging 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals prior to the injury, and was leading the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in assists and steals, while ranking in the top 10 nationally as well.

The 5-foot-11-inch guard was having one of the best all-around seasons in Duke history and was presented with a souvenir ball prior to Sunday’s game for reaching the 1,000-point plateau against Maryland on Feb. 11.
