Nice ride Minnesota a large bike sharing program soon to launch in Minneapolis has just received a big sponsor. See previous article on Nice Ride here. Eagan, Minnesota based Blue Cross Blue Shield announced Wednesday that they will sponsor the bike share program.
Blue Cross has sponsored the program because there are several countries and cities across Europe that has seen much success in similar programs. Blue Cross also looks to sponsor the program in hopes that the new venture will help bring a new trend that will help break the cycle of growing obesity by offering a creative solution to exercise. Not only is this venture built around getting people out more it also helps street congestion and can help create a more sustainable transportation service in large cities.
Other sponsors of the program include the organization Bike-Walk Twin Cities from which Nice Ride has received $1.75 million in funding from and also founding from the city of Minneapolis itself. The city and other funding partners look to grow the business starting in Minneapolis and pushing outward through the Twin Cities as the program gains its legs.
