The Annual Blue Claws Barnabas Health 5K Run in the Park will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at First Energy Park in Lakewood, N.J.
The 5K and One Mile races start in front of the stadium which is the home of the Blue Claws Minor League baseball team an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The finish for both events is inside the stadium. Runners will enter through the right field foul pole and made their way around the warning track and finished in front of cheering family and friends near home plate. Buster the Team Mascot will be at the start and finish to encourage and congratulate the runners.
Sunday, April 7, 5k, Blue Claws 5k, First Energy Park, Lakewood, N.J.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the Great Lawn of FirstEnergy Park. The One-Mile Fun Run begins at 10 am with the 5K Race following at 10:30 am. That day's Blue Claws game follows at 1 pm and all runners will receive a ticket to the game.
According to Jean M. Flaherty, Director of Marketing and Physician Services for Barnabas Health, "This event has brought out people of all ages and fitness levels in the past, and we expect a bigger and better turnout this year. The Fun Run/Walk provides a non-competitive platform for people to get moving in a way that is beneficial to their health. All participating runners will receive a ticket to that afternoon's Blue Claws game against Kannapolis (1:05 p.m. first pitch), and all pre-registered runners will receive a Blue Claws 5K t-shirt. Awards will be presented to the top three male and top three female finishers. The top three finishers in each of the five age groups will also receive awards."
Last year in the 5K the men’s winner was John Walsh of Millburn in a time of 15:45 followed by Peter Forgash of Long Branch in 16:42 and Jeff Propert of Wall in 17:06.
For the women it was Jersey Shore Running Club’s Dianne DeOliviera of Brick in a time of 19:07. Dianne is also the morning DJ at Magic 100.1. Dianne was followed by Deidre Gallo of Hatboro, Pa in 21:05 and then Kate Magee of Arlington, Virginia in 21:55.
