Blue Claws 5K attracts large field

The Annual Blue Claws 5K was held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at First Energy Park in Lakewood, N.J.

The 5K started at 10:30 a.m. and was preceded by a 1 mile fun run. The race features a run through the outfield of the stadium and a finish near home plate. The event was organized by the Ocean Running Club led by Patty Hancock of Toms River, N.J.

The runners lined up in front of the stadium and made their way around the area before entering the stadium in right field. They ran around the warning track and then finished in front of the stands where many spectators had taken up position to cheer them on. It was a large field of participants with over 450 registered to run.

Results

Coming in first for the men was Christ Poss of Manchester, N.J. in a time of 16:16. He was followed by John Welsh of Millburn in 16:23 and then Eddie Carvente of Lakewood in 16:53 to round out the top three,.

For the women it was Dianne DeOliveira of Brick breaking the tape in a time of 17:58. She was followed by Christine Conti of brick in 19:45 and then Amy Bernstein of East Windsor in 20:13.

After the race awards were presented to the top finishers and the age group winners. Many of the participants then stayed to watch the Blue Claws game.

It was another beautiful morning and great afternoon to play ball! The race culminated a busy weekend of running.
