The blast of arctic air continues across the Great Lakes today. Air temperatures have bottomed out and will very slowly climb into the single numbers this afternoon. A strong wind from the west will continue the bands of heavy lake effect snow. The strong wind will also produce some blowing and drifting of the snow and near blizzard conditions at times, especially near the lakeshore and in the open areas. Visibilities will be reduce to near zero at times making driving very difficult and even hazardous. The Grand Rapids National Weather Service extended the Winter Storm Warning for the counties along and near near the Lake Michigan shoreline until 7 PM Tuesday. Total additional snowfall accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible in the warning area by Tuesday evening.

The arctic air combined with the strong wind will create dangerous wind chill readings of 20 to 30 degrees below zero. A few locations along I-94 could see wind chill readings of 40 degrees below zero Tuesday Morning. A Wind chill Warning remains is in effect for all of West Michigan until 7 PM Tuesday.

On the flip side West Michigan will break out of the arctic chill and snow by the weekend as temperatures warm into mid and upper 30s with a mixture of both rain and snow.
