Blood moon: Mid-April's lunar 'Blood Moon’ eclipse evokes Bible prophecy

A “Blood Moon” lunar event is set to occur in a few weeks, and the upcoming astrological moon event, called the “Blood Moon” or “Hunter’s Moon,” is stirring Bible readers who point to symbolic references of the moon being turned to blood.
The "Blood Moon" lunar event.

Reports NewsMax on April 1:

According to astronomers, the “blood moon” eclipse will be visible on April 15 for the majority of the country, beginning at approximately 3:07 a.m. EST and lasting around 77 minutes. It will reportedly hit its peak at 3:36 a.m. EST. For those living on the West Coast, the “blood moon” eclipse will reportedly be visible one day earlier.

A Blood Moon may also be called a Hunter's moon, which is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon, or the full moon closest to autumnal equinox. In general, a reddish moon can occur at different times throughout the year. The lunar surface appears to adopt a “bloodlike” color because of the way light refracts in the earth’s atmosphere.

The reason stems from the air we breathe. During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth lies directly between the sun and the moon, causing the Earth to cast its shadow on the moon. If Earth didn’t have an atmosphere, then, when the moon was entirely within Earth’s shadow, the moon would appear black and invisible.

Sunlight is composed of a range of frequencies. As sunlight passes through our atmosphere, the green to violet portion of the light spectrum is, essentially, filtered out. This same effect, by the way, is what makes our sky blue during the day. Meanwhile, the reddish portion of the spectrum is least affected.

Bible readers may recall verses that mention a blood-like lunar phenomenon:

Joel 2:31 – The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of God

The book of Revelation also describes a condition where the moon is turned to blood. In a vision, John reported the following:

Revelation 6:12 – And I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and a great earthquake occurred; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the entire moon became as blood.

The darkening of the heavens and celestial bodies is often used to symbolically represent the elimination of favorable conditions on the earth, replaced with ominous circumstances, such as when the sunlight is blocked out by storm clouds.

Says WebProNews:

It might be easy for religious fanatics to associate “blood moons” with the supernatural because of their striking reddish-orange color, but this phenomenon can be fully explained by science… Despite its astronomical nature, the “blood moon” cycle remains religiously significant to several beliefs. In Judaism, the four “blood moons” fall on the major feast days between 2014 and 2015.
