Blondie’s New York is the final installment in a three-part music documentary series presented by the Smithsonian Channel over the past month. “Amy Winehouse: One Shining Night” aired March 14th, and “Rocking the Opera House: Dr. John” aired March 7th, both to favorable critical reviews. “Blondie’s New York” is up next on March 21st at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and provides viewers with an intimate look at the band and its frontwoman and namesake, Debbie Harry.

Crime and blight in New York City were rampant in 1978. The arts scene, however, was expanding and thriving. It was a time when rich creativity, grinding poverty, and drug abuse were hand-in-hand on the sidewalks of the Lower East side. Out of this unique and troubled time and place emerged a legendary band, and one of the best-selling albums of all time—Blondie’s Parallel Lines.

The Smithsonian Channel’s “Blondie’s New York” documentary illustrates how, in the span of just a few years, Blondie went from being a band fighting for punk cred at famed Lower East Side club CBGB and performing with groundbreaking bands such as the Ramones, Television, and Johnny Thunder, to international superstars and fashion icons. What was the secret behind their success? How did it all come together... and nearly fall apart? Debbie Harry, the band, and producer Mike Chapman’s conversations reveal the real stories behind iconic hits like "Heart of Glass" and "One Way or Another," and how they launched punk music into the mainstream. The documentary is narrated by Kim Cattrall.

To celebrate the airing of “Blondie’s New York,” we are giving away 5 copies of "Blondie: Video Hits" on DVD, and 5 copies of "Blondie: Greatest Hits" on CD!! To enter to win, subscribe to this page, “Like” the article, and leave me a comment stating why you are a Blondie fan! Contest ends March 21st. Good luck!
