The British singer-songwriter also brought down the house as she performed publicly for the first time since undergoing vocal-cord surgery in November 2011. Adele, 23, earned a standing ovation from the audience after her moving performance of Rolling in the Deep.
Meanwhile, Adele, who has said she's proud to be a role model for curvy women, looked slimmer than ever in a form-fitting black evening gown.
Adele, born Adele Adkins, also won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for her smash hit Someone Like You.
"I can't believe I'm getting emotional already," Adele told reporters backstage. "And seeing as it's a vocal performance, I need to thank my doctors, I suppose, who brought my voice back."
Sadly, the evening was marred by the tragic death of superstar Whitney Houston, who died Feb. 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Houston, who had battled substance abuse for years, reportedly died of a drug overdose after ingesting a deadly mix of Xanax, alcohol and other prescription drugs hours earlier.
Singer Jennifer Hudson paid tribute to Houston by performing a stirring rendition of Houston's hit track, I Will Always Love You.
