When you get to Block Island, the hardest part will be deciding what to do first. If you are looking for a bit of exercise, start with a bike or moped ride to the north lighthouse located within the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge. Although it does not look like it, it is quite far so bring plenty to drink and wear good hiking shoes; the rocks and sand will give you an excellent work out. On the way, you will certainly notice the spectacular view, so you will definitely want to have your camera.
After that invigorating hike, head back to town to get some lunch. This is another difficult choice due to the many options; The Oar Restaurant is a fantastic choice. Located in New Harbor on Great Salt Pond, the view is incredible. Sit outside on the covered porch or at a picnic table and you can play the “someday” game with all the beautiful boats at the dock while enjoying a Mudslide or other cocktail. Another great option for a meal is The National Hotel. With the expansive wrap around porch you will be sure to get a great view of Block Island Sound. You can sit and relax on the porch while you sip a cool drink and enjoy the wonderful breeze while watching the waves break on the jetty.
After lunch, grab your sunblock and a towel and head to the beach for a while. After some exercise and a bite to eat what could be better? Bring a book or your music and lay back and maybe even take a nap. There are no rules to the day except to have fun and relax; what better way than to do nothing for a while?
