As I'm sure you have heard by now, yesterday the world lost one of the funniest, sweetest, and most humble men in the world - Robin Williams. The fan reaction to news of his passing has to be one of the most sincere and respectable reactions to a celebrity death we have ever seen. Needless to say, he has touched the lives of countless people and will never be forgotten.
The gaming community can be a fickle beast when it comes to celebrities, but because of Robin William's deeply embedded roots in the gaming scene, fans have started a petition to have Williams forever immortalized in one of the games that was a huge part of his life - World of Warcraft.
Here's the proposal from the petition.
Because of his presence within our community, we the players of World of Warcraft are asking Blizzard to kindly create an NPC within the game that memorializes the actor/comedian. Many have expressed a wish to this character perform some of Williams' best jokes within the World's End Tavern, so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing. - change.org
When you think about it, an in-game character telling some of Williams' jokes in the World's End Tavern is a fitting tribute to the late actor and comedian. However, online petitions have a habit of being hit or miss, so what are the chances of this ever becoming a reality? More likely than you'd think!
In response to the swarm of tweets asking if he had heard of the petition, Chadd Nervig, World of Warcraft's technical Game Designer, responded with six incredible words.
Yes. We're taking care of it. - @Celestalon
That vague sentence more than confirmed that something was coming to World of Warcraft to honor our fallen brother, but what? Tweeting at the late William's Twitter account, Nervig then subtly hinted at it once more.
In less than 24 hours of the petition going live, the petition organizer claims to have received confirmation that a Robin Williams tribute and/or character will be handled with great care by Blizzard.
And they say we can't have nice things on the Internet. See you in-game, buddy.
