Over the course of the weekend so many events were canceled and many ticket holders were wondering if the much anticipated New Artist Showcase might have to be canceled as well. However, a storm that recorded the second highest snowfall in the state’s history kept only one of the thirteen scheduled acts from being able to make it to a sold out Tupelo Music Hall on Sunday night.
Robert Haigh, Tupelo’s Open Mic host, began the evening with an introduction to the evening explaining that the artists are some of the great local talents that have adorned the Tupelo stage and many have careers that are evolving into something extremely promising.
Several of these new talents are from right here in Manchester, NH. MB Padfield launched a new single, “Beast.” Tristan Omand mixed it up with old and new. Jonee Earthquake, a long time open mic resident at Tupelo, was also among the invitees and provided high energy to the night.
The talent didn’t stop there. Ashley Jordan tugged at the heartstrings of the audience with one of her latest hits “Fading Away.” Not only is Fading Away a powerful set of lyrics, but it has currently been nominated for a Limelight Magazine Video of the Year award.
Dale Reynolds kicked off the evening with a soulful performance. Dale was followed by 11 other acts including Marina Evans, Charlie Christos, Mae Danger, Anna Dagmar, Jay Psaros, WT “Snake” Miller, and Chelsea Berry. The lone performer that was stranded due to the blizzard was Joe Young whose flight from LA was postponed.
It may have been a blessing in disguise that there was only time for each performer to get in two tracks. It was a fantastic way of being introduced to so many great performers at one time. Even if some of the audience members were attending to see one particular performer, they no doubt left being a fan of many.
The Sunday night performances were recorded in preparation for a compilation CD of music from these and other emerging artists that have performed at Tupelo Music Hall. Liz Longley and Reed Waddle are also reported to participating in submitting tracks for Tupelo’s Emerging Artist CD. More information will be released as it becomes available.
The next open mic night at Tupelo Music Hall will be held on March 7, 2013 featuring Chelsea Berry.
