Blizzard conditions, a cold snap and mild lows top the list of Michigan weather events on this day in history. From the National Weather Service archives here are the events that happened on January 29.

1909 - A snowstorm dumps from 6 to 10 inches of snow across southern Lower Michigan. The snowfall sets daily records with Grand Rapids observing 7.5”, Muskegon 7” and Lansing 9”.

1947 - 1.32” of liquid precipitation fell in Flint. This is roughly equivalent to 13” of snowfall!

1966 - A week long cold snap reaches its nadir as temperatures fall to record lows of -16° at Grand Rapids, -12° at Muskegon and -11° at Flint.

1996 - Blizzard conditions across Upper Michigan included a peak wind gust at the Marquette County Airport of 51 mph.

2006 – This was a record warm day for West Michigan as temperatures remain in the 40s all day with light rain showers. The mild low temperatures for the day are reached just before midnight. Records for the day include Grand Rapids with a low of 39°, Muskegon with 38° and Lansing at 40°.
