March 22 - Collectible card game lovers, unite! Today, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled its latest game creation - HearthStone - at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) East. The game is a digital collectible card game playable on Windows and Mac computers as well as on iPads. It will be Blizzard's first free-to-play game.
HearthStone players will face off in 1v1 games by choosing Warcraft heroes from nine World of Warcraft classes. By playing games, they will earn medal rankings as well as booster packs of cards to add to their decks.
The game will feature several ways to build a deck. In true free-to-play style, players can earn booster packs by either playing the game or by purchasing them for small amounts of money. HearthStone also features card crafting, which allows players to turn cards they do not want into materials that can be used to create different cards. Finally, the game will feature a tutorial mode to help players build decks.
Blizzard's presentation featured a live, shoutcasted match to demonstrate the game's strategy. The company plans to release the game's beta this summer, with the full game release to follow later this year.
