Blessed Imbolc!

Today is the Sabbat of imbolc also known as Oimelc or Candlemas. Imbolc, deriving from the words that mean "in milk', is the Sabbat marking the beginning of the melting of the snow and the time that the animals began to show signs of being pregnant. The grass and other plants are bgining to show signs of returning greenery just in time to be able to feed the newborns at Ostara, or the Spring Equinox. Many also know today as Groundhog Day, and it is the tradition of the groundhog and his shadow that remind us that today is also the return of the light to the world.

And speaking of the Earth there are parallels between gardening and magickal practice at this Sabbat. Meaning that much like we fertilize our gardens at this time of the year to prepare for the Spring planting, so must we do in our own life.

And so Pagans celebrate this as a time to focus on their yearly goals that they set at Yule. The creative energies at Ostara can be very helpful into manifesting these goals into reality.
