Bleeding ulcer symptoms (Video)

Learn about bleeding ulcer symptoms, and seek medical assistance if you display a number of of the symptoms. A bleeding ulcer is serious and often life-threatening. Delaying treatment for a bleeding ulcer can lead to further complications.

Abdominal Pain. Bleeding ulcer symptoms include abdominal pain, which could be so severe that it's difficult to move. If you have previously been diagnosed with a stomach ulcer, it is possible that your condition has progressed into a bleeding ulcer, or you could unknowingly have an existing ulcer and failed to recognize the symptoms which are now more severe; stomach acids and food substances could already be getting into your abdominal cavity, and causing additional health problems.

Bloody Stools. Another symptom of bleeding ulcer is blood in the stool. Look at your bathroom tissue and at the stool before flushing the toilet to see if you observe any signs of bleeding. The blood might be dull red or dark in color caused by internal bleeding. It is essential to see a doctor if you find blood in your stools, especially if you have also been feeling nauseated.

Light-headed and Weak. Feeling dizzy and weak are normal symptoms of a bleeding ulcer. Loss of blood causes the body to lose energy and may lead to anemia. This may be associated with fatigue and paleness of the skin. People suffering with a bleeding ulcer might need an iron supplement until the ulcer is in check. A doctor should test for iron deficiency while treating the bleeding ulcer.

Upset Stomach. Experiencing an upset stomach frequently is another symptom of the bleeding ulcer. This type of upset stomach is just like the symptoms of stomach flu, and it may occur with pain and bloating. Sometimes you will feel an intense burning sensation in the stomach, often followed with repeated belching. This is an indication that you may need medical attention.

A bleeding stomach ulcer is usually a serious medical condition. If you experience symptoms you need to seek a proper diagnosis and treatment immediately.
