The right-handed Blatchford, the WCST’s 2012 bowler of the year in the Super Senior division, claimed the final qualifying spot at No. 8 on Saturday before staging a furious rally in the finals on Sunday.
On an extremely tough lane pattern, Blatchford rolled an 893 in his last four games (223.3 average) to earn his second WCST championship of the year. He won $700.
Ron Mohr finished second in the tournament and pocketed $500. He was the top qualifier with a 2,094 for 10 games, an average of 209.4. Mohr held a sizeable 207-pin lead over Blatchford after four games in the finals, but managed only a 713 (average 178.3) in his final four games.
Blatchford barely qualified for the finals, finishing a mere eight pins ahead of Burbank’s Bill Stempke for the last qualifying spot.
Don Moser took home $370 for his third-place finish.
Blatchford racked up five championships last year. He earned his first WCST title of 2013 in February at La Habra before winning his second championship Sunday.
The WCST will compete next on Oct. 5 in Diamond Bar, Calif.
