Don Blatchford lived up to his role as favorite by claiming the title of the West Coast Senior Tour bowling tournament Saturday and Sunday at Riverside Casino Lanes in Laughlin, Nev.

It was Blatchford’s third WCST title of the year in the tour’s final event of 2013. Blatchford also won the WCST championship in Laughlin last year.

After his tournament victory, Blatchford was named the WCST’s 2013 bowler of the year for the 60-and-over division. The right-handed Blatchford was the WCST’s Super Senior bowler of the year in 2012.

Blatchford, a Santa Monica resident, picked up $1,200 for the victory in the 48-man field. He won $1,500 in the 2012 Laughlin tournament that had 47 entrants.

Ron Mohr of North Las Vegas finished second and won $900, Darron Peters of Lake Elsinore took third and earned $800, Ron Winger of Las Vegas placed fourth and won $700 and Don Moser of Murrieta finished fifth and earned $600.

Eric Forkel of Henderson, Nev., finished sixth ($500), Jim Harvey of Los Angeles took seventh ($400), Lou Moretti of Las Vegas placed eighth ($370), Ron De Maio of San Bernardino finished ninth ($350) and Doug Talsma of Las Vegas claimed 10th ($330).

Moser was the top qualifier in the 10 preliminary games with an average of 238.8. Blatchford qualified sixth with an average of 226.4.

Peters turned in two highlights by blasting a perfect game in Saturday’s qualifying round and rolling another 300 in Sunday’s finals. Peters, who won three WCST events this year, was named the WCST 2013 bowler of the year for the 50-59 age division.

Moretti also bowled a 300 during the qualifying round.
